Hakeem Metzger
Counseling Intern
I am currently in my third year as a master’s student at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, working toward my degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a clinician, I emphasize a nonjudgmental approach to therapy, recognizing the uniqueness of each individual's experience. I view therapy as a collaborative effort and aim to guide clients in developing habits that enable them to function well and enjoy their daily routines. I utilize a blend of theoretical orientations to help clients achieve their goals, with a focus on techniques that enhance awareness of thoughts and feelings. Adjusting these variables in ways that prove effective is a key therapeutic approach I often employ. While I am interested in working with a variety of populations, my primary areas of interest include ADHD, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. I am currently conducting research on the effectiveness of specific interventions for these populations and have facilitated presentations on these topics at group practices and for various staff at The Chicago School. That said, I remain open to working with diverse populations to continually improve as a clinician.
Some fun facts about me: I am an ardent soccer fan, having been fortunate enough to play at the collegiate level and still actively follow the sport. My love for health and fitness is a significant part of my life, and as my soccer journey concluded, weightlifting became my new passion. In my leisure time, I indulge in anime and enjoy food dates with my wife, exploring the unique tastes that Columbus has to offer.
I am currently unlicensed and am working under the direct supervision of Jon (Jamie) Bourn, Ph.D.
